- —Small-to-mid farms rely on someone physically flipping switches for pumps and relays — no reliable way to control devices remotely.
- —Most cheap IoT hardware needs WiFi at every node, which doesn't hold up in real farm terrain with weak or patchy coverage.
🛠️ Approach
1.A private wireless mesh (ESP-NOW)
ESP32 nodes talk to each other in a mesh without needing WiFi everywhere — one node bridges to the cloud through a Raspberry Pi.
2.A fully realtime data pipeline
MQTT (EMQX Cloud) → Data Integration → Supabase Edge Function → Postgres — every sensor reading and control command flows through with a full audit trail.
3.A realtime toggle-switch dashboard
Flip devices on/off from a phone; state syncs instantly across every open window via Supabase Realtime, with an automatic fail-safe cutoff if the connection drops.
4.Local Bluetooth setup & control
Added a BLE mode (NimBLE) for configuring and controlling nodes straight from the web app with no internet — built for on-site installs.
📈 Results & status
- ✓First full hardware-to-cloud pipeline working end to end — sensor → MQTT → Supabase → dashboard
- ✓Actuator/relay control commands work round-trip in production, with a full audit trail and fail-safe TTL
- ✓Multi-farm, multi-node architecture supports many sites from one system
Still moving — over-the-air firmware updates and state persistence across reboots are next. 🔧
